Austrian band Phal:Angst are out with the album “Whiteout”, and dark music is what the band provides us with on this album. There’s something of a doom-laden, ominous mood to this entire album, with songs that feature orchestral textures on an electronic foundation, an influx of noise rock and noise metal elements, a bit of an industrial touch but also occasional dips into post-rock territories. Rhythms with a bit of a slow paced EBM feel appear on occasion too, and a slight detour into a dark and solemn variety of synth pop is a part of the album experience as well. Raspy, dark toned vocals emphasize the brooding and ominous nature of it all. A production to seek out if dark, brooding and ominous sounding atmospheres that defy the more common boundaries of music sounds like an intriguing proposition.
